Amber's Journey

Hi! My name is Amber Leavitt! My fitness journey began 10 years ago, and if you have a moment, I would love to share a bit of myself and my journey with you.
I am a working mom of three and step-mom to a busy toddler. The day that I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I decided that I needed to make some changes to my unhealthy lifestyle so that I could be around to see my children grow up and have children of their own.
The only change that I had made to becoming healthier was that I quit smoking. Don't take me wrong! Quitting smoking is a huge feat, but quitting smoking alone did not make me feel the way that I wanted to feel. I still didn't feel healthy. I was unhappy with the way that I looked, was struggling with stubborn body fat and was lacking energy and motivation to make further changes.
Fast forward 6 years, mid-March 2012. I was sitting at my kitchen table with my laptop open to Facebook. I just finished drinking my third cup of coffee of the morning, chatting with my husband of 8 years. As I watched him make a post workout protein shake (which I had seen him do a million times before)...and I realized...maybe it was time for me to get active.
I did not workout. I didn't watch what I eat. I mean I dieted on and off. NOPE! Diet isn't the right word - I deprived myself and starved myself here and there to get to a bodyweight that I couldn't maintain.
I rarely took my kids to the park or went out for a walk. I was nothing close to being active, never been athletic and was afraid to sweat!
Conversation turned to how my best friend, who lives an hour and a half away from me, had invited me to a MLM party at her house that night, for a company that sold protein shakes and promoted a 90 Day Challenge. I remember thinking that maybe what I needed to get myself going was protein shakes too! I could go to the party, get myself some protein shakes and they would make me into the person I wanted to be. My hubby could have his shakes and I would have mine! It was a grand idea!
...I did not attend the party...
But after everyone had left her house for the evening, she called me and told me that she had signed up to become a promoter for the company and the 90 Day Challenge, and she wanted me to do the same! This would entail buying the product, using it and committing to the 90 Day Challenge where I would set a goal and work towards it for 90 days.
I was looking for something to get me started and it landed in my lap with this phone call, so I decided to jump on board and for the first time in my life I set some health goals and made my health a priority.
My 1st 90 Day Challenge Goal was to start RUNNING!
In February, I had found out about a run that was going to be taking place in September 2012 in my area, and I laughed when someone asked me if I wanted to try it out. I have never been a runner and was sure that I wouldn't be able to learn because I ran out of breath running up the 10 stairs to the main floor of my house to catch the phone before the third ring. All of a sudden, I was determined to change...and my sights were set on a Half Marathon (and at the time, I did not know how far a half marathon actually was), and I had 6 months to get myself into shape!

The picture above is the physical results of my first 90 day challenge. The changes that I experienced mentally are the results that I am the most proud of and they have lasted me 10 years!
I don't even remember if I had a weightloss goal at the time, but my body changed so much from changing my lifestyle, but the energy that I gained from incorporating movement daily was amazing - something that I never imagined possible. It was the confidence that I gained from learning something new and from making goals and achieving them that has kept me going all these years.
My journey has evolved over the years. At first, I started with doing 90 day challenges and drinking protein shakes. With each new 90 Day Challenge, I incorporated different aspects fitness and nutrition. I learned how to eat properly so that I didn't have to rely on protein shakes to maintain my weight. I did a lot of research and experimenting to find out what it was that best suited me, my body and my lifestyle. Fitness really did BECOME my lifestyle and I have since moved on from 90 Day Challenges with MLM companies, to longer term goals such as competing in Figure competitions with the ABBA, getting certified as a NCSF Personal Trainer and most recently to obtain a Health and Life Coaching certification.
I love to share my passion for health and fitness with those around me. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to help people find the proper tools to help them feel great, the fun in working out, and to give others the opportunity to inspire those around them. It is my mission to help my clients move past obstacles and excuses, to regain confidence and to achieve their health, life & fitness goals.
